WORKSHOPS AND OFF-SITE TRAININGS

I regularly offer off-site workshops for all three NACSW levels.   Currently, the following Workshops are scheduled:

“SOURCE NOT ODOR” Series of Classes (Four-Week Course)
*This Four-Week Course clarifies what the dog should tell you about when he makes his find and helps build duration and accuracy into the find behavior.  Each week, we will introduce the dog to a new piece of equipment that helps educate your dog how he should “make his demand to be paid.” And, at the end of this Four-Week Course, the dog will be asked to perform some Interior NW1 level searching with the hope that the dog will show much more odor obedience and commitment to scent source.  A prerequisite for taking the Four-Week Course was to have successfully completed the Six-Week Course.
*This Four-Week Course will run for one (1) hour at 7:00pm on the following days:   Sundays: July 29 – August 5 – August 12 – August 26 (No class August 19).  As we will be working with equipment that could get damaged if exposed to water, the training on any date on which it rains will be cancelled and the schedule will be pushed out a week to accommodate the cancellation.
*All dogs registering need to be independently hunting for birch odor. Space is limited.  Location: Harvard, MA.
*To register, please follow the electronic registration instructions for this event in the section of this website, www.scentinelnosework.com, entitled “Registration for Workshops and Off-Site Trainings.” You will see links for this Training entitled, “Source Not Odor – Four-Week Course – Start 07/29/18 7:00pm.”

“REPETITIVE DRILL” Series of Classes (Six-Week Course)
*“Repetitive Drills” build and help maintain drive, enthusiasm, engagement and focus in your dog and a willingness to try. “Repetitive Drills” help the dog to understand that it is source that is important and not just odor. “Repetitive Drills” help develop that pinpoint precision, something very necessary for successful K9NW competition. “Repetitive Drills” condition in a “pay me now” behavior. And, “Repetitive Drills” allow the dog to exercise his problem-solving skills in a way that empowers the dog instead of burning the dog out. “Repetitive Drills” are designed to be “quick and easy” and “quick, easy problems” ARE NOT BORING to the dog – they EMPOWER your dog.  As Ron Gaunt told me once, “Dogs never get tired of success” and “Repetitive Drills” help your dog stay strong, confident and energized by maintaining that high ratio of quick, easy problems that make your dog feel successful!
While one cannot change dog behaviors in six weeks that have been practiced, in some cases, for years and, if a dog has some environmental sensitivities, then progress can also appear slow. But, if your dog currently shows a lack of drive, enthusiasm, engagement or focus in his work or does not go out into a search with an obvious “willingness to try” or a “punch” (as I call it) then, over time, the use of “Repetitive Drills” WILL improve your dog’s performance. But, it may take longer than just this one six-week period of time. Still, in taking this series of classes, you will know how to use “Repetitive Drills” going forward, giving you tools that you can take away and use with your dog in the weeks and months to come as part of your regular weekly Training Program. Plus, this series of classes will give you a better understanding of “why” dogs often show a dip in performance over time and what tools and handler techniques that can help you condition a stronger performance into your dog over time.
*This Six-Week Course will run for one (1) hour at 4:00pm and at 5:3opm on the following days:   Sundays: August 5  — August 12 – August 26 – September 2 —  September 16 – September 30 (No class August 19, September 19 & September 23).
*To register, please follow the electronic registration instructions for this event in the section of this website, www.scentinelnosework.com, entitled “Registration for Workshops and Off-Site Trainings.” You will see links for this Training entitled, “Repetitive Drills Training – Six-Week Course – Start 08/05/18 4:00pm” and “Repetitive Drills Training – Six-Week Course – Start 08/05/18 5:30pm.”  Please click on a link based on the time you would like to participate.
