Scentinel Nose Work Dog Training is offering a Six Week Course and a Four Week Course on "Source not Odor," in Harvard, MA, starting Thursday, June 6, 2020.
If your dog searches and searches and has a difficult time locating “source,” then this series of classes is for you. If your dog searches for the source, but demands to paid while still many inches away from source, then this series of class is for you. Alternately, if your dog searches for the source, but demands to paid by scratching, pawing or biting, then this series of class is for you. And, if your dog searches for odor, but then “walks” the source or even gives up before locating source, then this series of classes is definitely for you! I have found that many of these problems as well as others are caused by the dog not understanding “where” on the scent continuum he is to tell you about and how he should communicate with you. And, it is not about “odor,” but rather it is “source” that we want him to tell us about!! But, sometimes the dog has difficulty understanding what it is that we want him to do. So, this series of classes will help clarify where we want our dog to make his two decisions, thereby improving your dog’s accuracy in locating a hide. And, another plus is that this series of classes may help to empower your dog in his searching and may help build drive and willingness in your dog to go to source.
Six Week Course: This Six Week Course is geared toward clarifying for the dog where he is to make his two decisions and encouraging your dog to "stick more to source” without pawing when your dog does make a find. We will do that by using some of the Training Equipment that I have at my house.
Four Week Course: The Four Week Course further clarifies what the dog should tell you about and helps build duration and accuracy into the find behavior. At the end of this Four Week Course, the dog will be asked to perform some Interior NW1 level searching with the hope that the dog will show much more odor obedience and commitment to scent source. A prerequisite for taking the Four Week Course is to have successfully completed the Six Week Course.
Dog must be on odor.
Dog must be able to be staged outside in personal vehicle (engine running with air condition on is fine).
Given the tight spaces in the training area, dog must not be human or dog reactive.
In order take the Four Week Course, the handler/dog team must have completed the Six Week Course.
